    Description

The item for sale is a pottery 12" oval serving platter that was made in Burslem, England around the turn of the twentieth century by the Woods pottery.  The plate is decorated with red transfer created by printing the design on tissue paper and allowing the pigment to soak into the plate before it is fired.  The pattern is called Watteau and features a romantic couple playing musical instruments with a dog on a scroll platform.  The trees are reminiscent of the famous Willow pattern.  The edge has raised bead-like decoration. The plate was previously owned.  The condition is almost essentially the same as when the plate was made.  There are no chips, cracks, crazing nor wear.  There is an isolated utensil mark or two.  There are kiln stand marks on the bottom.  The plate dimensions are 12" by 9 1/2".
