    Description

    KWANTUNG LEASED TERRITORY 1944 FDC
Dedication of the Kwantung Shrine October 1, 1944.
The commemorative LCD on both stamps was authorized
for one day and only at post offices in the Kwantung Leased Territory (KLT).
This card was cancelled at the
    Port Arthur post office.
Although the stamps were valid throughout Japan they were only available at post offices
    in the KLT.
They could be obtained from the Kwantung Postal Administration or through the Japan Postage
    Stamp Association.
Thus few people other than philatelists had access to copies and actual usages in Japan
proper, that is postmarked at a post office in Japan, are extremely rare.
The magenta cachet on the right is a private cachet from the Port Arthur train station applied June 7, 1935,
commemorating the 30th anniversary of the capture of Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War.
